Two held with gold at IGIA

New Delhi: In two separate cases, Customs at IGI airport arrested two persons for smuggling gold into the country. Gold worth more than Rs 64 lakh was recovered from their possession. According to customs, they have arrested a passenger at IGIA after he crossed the green channel. The accused was coming from Dubai. On detailed personal and baggage search, gold paste which was concealed inside the rectum of the passenger was recovered.

"The gold paste was processed which resulted in the recovery of gold bar weighing 505 grams. The total value of the gold was more than 17 lakh rupees," said Amandeep Singh, Additional Commissioner of Customs, adding that accused had smuggled gold valued more than Rs 46 lakh in the past.

Meanwhile, in another case, 12 gold biscuits were seized from the possession of a person at IGI airport. According to customs, on November 17, a passenger was intercepted who was coming from Dubai. During his personal and baggage search 12 gold biscuits weighing 1,401 grams were recovered. The value of the gold was more than Rs 47 lakh.
