Truck mows down 9-yr-old girl, injures another

A nine-year-old girl was killed and another girl seriously injured after they were hit by a speeding mini truck in Jahangirpuri area of north west Delhi on Saturday. Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, while some residents resorted to stone pelting.

According to police, the two girls were returning from tuition classes. While crossing the road, a Tata 407 mini truck came speeding towards and hit them. Divya died on the spot, while Mamta, also nine, was rushed to the hospital with fractured bones. The incident occurred around 3 pm

The girls were residents of a Pakistani refugee camp in the area. Soon, local people gathered and resorted to stone pelting. Police had a tough time controlling and dispersing the crowd. The accused was immediately caught by police.

"We arrested the driver from the spot and have booked him under sections 279, 304 A and 338 of the IPC. The body has been sent for post-mortem," said a senior police officer.
