Three held for stabbing man to death in Govindpuri park

New Delhi: A man was stabbed to death for resisted a snatching bid in the forested area inside Monkey Park in south east Delhi's Govindpuri area on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said that three persons were arrested for the crime within hours of the incident.
The incident was reported on Saturday around 4.30 PM when the deceased, identified as Naresh, was walking in the park along with a female friend.
Suddenly, the three accused accosted them, trying to snatch their phones.
"The deceased was carrying phones, one of which belonged to his friend. He gave the snatchers his phone, but refused to giver away hers, after which one of the accused stabbed him and fled the spot with both the phones.
"The accused had taken Naresh with them and made the girl sit 20 meters away. After seeing the stabbing, the girl shouted for help. A PCR call was made and the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead," said a police official.
Police said Naresh was a resident of Trilokpuri and worked as a waiter in marriages.
His uncle, Kailash, said Naresh he was also studying an engineering course from a Delhi college and his father was outside Delhi when the incident happened.
"Naresh's father, who worked as a contractor had gone to his village to celebrate Lohri," said Kailash. On Saturday, the father came to know of the incident through Naresh' elder brother Lokesh.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal stated that the girl works Mehandi artist in marriages, from where she befriended Naresh.
Govindpuri's Monkey Park, which is spread over five km, has one main gate and several exit points that are not manned by guards.
On Saturday evening, only one guard was on duty between 5 pm to 1 am. There are no functioning lights at the crime scene, and the poles have been taken over by monkeys.
