Three arrested for attempted robbery, shooting

NEW DELHI: Exchanging greetings outside a bank with his victim proved costly for a cocky robber, who had opening fire and tried to run away with the former's money in south Delhi Hauz Khas.

Cops on Tuesday said that on July 4, victim Sajjan Kumar reached his office in Jungpura and collected cash to be deposited in a bank in Gujjar Dairy, Hauz Khas. He had been followed by two masked men from his Jungpura office, who tried to overpower on the Moolchand flyover by hitting his bike but failed.

However when Kumar reached the bank and was parking his bike, the same two culprits, now without masks, came over and greeted him by shaking hands.

Before Kumar could understand anything, they tried to snatch his bag containing cash, cheques and other documents. Kumar resisted the attempt and one of the culprits took out a country-made pistol and shot at Kumar. One bullet struck Kumar near the left eye-brow, but he survived. Finally, the culprits fled empty-handed.

"Based on the memory of the incident during which one of the suspects greeted him by shaking hands, Kumar suspected one of the culprits to be an ex-employee of the company in which he is working," said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said on Tuesday.

On the basis of this information, the ex-employee of Nestle Distributor's Dheeraj Yadav was identified and arrested from Filmistan area. His two accomplices were also arrested later.
