Suicide: Student hangs self; woman jumps from 3rd floor

Noida/ GReater Noida: In two separate cases of suicide reported from the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida, a 23-year-old student at a private college in Greater Noida allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the window railing at his hostel room while a 40-year-old woman allegedly jumped from the third-floor in sector 46 area as she was depressed over her mother's death a day ago.

Abhishek Shah, a resident of Railway Colony in Bareilly, committed suicide by hanging himself from the window railing inside his hostel room in sector Alpha-I of Greater Noida. He was a fourth-year student of B pharma course at NIET college in Knowledge Park of Greater Noida. Police officials said that the student was depressed over his backlogs in the exams and inadequate attendance.

Abhishek's friends told the police that till late Tuesday night, he played games on his mobile phone along with his friends and went to his room to sleep. On Wednesday morning, when he didn't open the door till late, his friends broke open the door and found him hanging with the window railing. They immediately alerted the hostel staffers who informed the police about the incident.

"A police team reached the spot and took the body into custody which was sent for the postmortem. We have recovered a five-page suicide note in which the student had apologised his parents for taking the extreme step and wrote that he was depressed over his poor academic performance," said Ram Phal Singh, Station House Officer, Kasna police station.

In another incident, Renuka Sachdeva (40), allegedly committed suicide after she jumped from the third-floor of her house. Police said that the woman was depressed after her mother died of heart attack on Tuesday. "As soon as Renuka saw her mother's dead body on Tuesday night, she burst into tears and went to the third-floor in her house and jumped to death while others failed to notice her," said a senior police officer.
