Speeding pvt bus crushes DTC bus driver to death

NEW DELHI: In a tragic accident, a 33-year-old DTC bus driver was crushed to death by a private bus at Anand Vihar bus depot in East Delhi on Sunday.

Cops on Monday said that the victim Shiv Kumar (33), a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district, succumbed to his injuries during treatment the next day.

The incident was reported on Sunday around 10.30 am, said a senior police official. The public present at the spot, however, caught the accused driver and handed him over to cops.

A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) conductor Sachin, who is an eyewitness in the case, lodged an complaint against the accused driver at Anand Vihar police station. Cops subsequently arrested the accused driver, identified as 55-year-old Idris, a resident of Simbhavali village of UP's Hapur.

Sachin told cops that the accident took place when he and Kumar we were about to leave the bus depot with passengers to Gurugram.

"The bus was full with passengers and we had left the bus depot nearly 50 metres. There was a huge traffic jam outside the bus depot. Suddenly, the driver Shiv Kumar felt that the glasses set inside the window of driver side were not properly fitted and was creating noisy vibration sounds. He came out of the bus to also set the rear view mirror properly," Sachin said in his complaint.

"As he was setting the rear view mirror on the driving side, a speeding bus came from behind to overtake our bus, and crushed Shiv Kumar between the two buses," he said.

Shiv Kumar's body was pulled out from the accident spot and rushed to GTB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
