Smooth traffic: Police to analyse reasons behind jams

New Delhi: In a bid to curb snarls in the Capital, Delhi Traffic Police will analyse the reasons behind traffic jams. The law enforcement agency will compile the complaints which they received through different mode every day and if required they will take up with other agencies.

It will also clear congestion on the roads by engaging group patrolling.

According to police sources, through analysis, senior officers will find out the areas which receive the most traffic complaints and subsequently determine the reason behind the regular congestion.

"24x7 complaints regarding traffic snarls, which come through social media and helpline numbers, will be compiled and sent to senior officers," said a police official.

He added that if finding the solution is within the capacity of the traffic police, they will solve it; if not, cops will they take it up with other agencies as construction work often causes traffic snarls.

Cops further said that the major reasons behind traffic jams include encroachment, unauthorised parking, engineering problems and construction works.

The move was proposed by Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Taj Hassan.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Alok Kumar told Millennium Post that they conduct patrolling during peak hours, which helps in removing snarls which are generally caused by obstructive parking.

"Main roads are patrolled during peak hours by the team and it is helpful in removing snarls," said Kumar.

Group patrolling has seen a positive result as in the last week, residents – through different media – have sent names of over 150 locations where traffic snarls are frequent and patrolling is required. When questioned about snarls during nights, the senior officer said some places have been identified and being patrolled.
