Robbery bid: One thrashed to death in Mangolpuri

A man was lynched to death by public on Wednesday night as he was caught while he tried to rob a woman at Mangolpuri Railway Station.
The deceased, identified as Ramesh was trying to rob the woman with his four other associates before he was caught by an angry mob and beaten to death, police said.
The woman had told the police that she was waiting outside her jhuggi close to the Mangolpuri Railway Station when four robbers on a scooty zipped past the woman.
Out of the gang, two of the robbers pounced on the woman and tried to rob her belongings as she tried to fight them off.
One of the robbers then whipped out a knife and tried to stab the woman who raised an alarm.
While the woman was fending off the attack, an angry crowd rushed to her help.
One of the robbers fled away from the spot, while Ramesh tried to wrest her belongings.
"The crowd then caught hold of him and started thrashing Ramesh. The woman also tried to pacify the crowd, but they kept assaulting the man. One of the men from the crowd made a PCR call and informed us about the incident," said a senior police official privy to the investigation.
By the time police arrived, the man was already taken to the nearest hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
"The doctor told us that the deceased had multiple bruises. We have registered two cases, one against the robber and other against the unidentified members of the public. I have ordered ACP (Vigilance) to enquire personally into the matter and submit a report in this regard," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) MN Tiwari.
