Road rage: Man beaten with iron rods

Gurugram: A murderous road rage was again witnessed in the city when a person was beaten mercilessly with iron rods by a group of men. The incident occurred near New Colony on December 4.

The victim who has been identified as Anoop has now filed a complaint with the police after being admitted to the hospital where he was getting treated. The police, meanwhile, have identified the men after retrieving the CCTV images. In what was another example of civic apathy, a host of vehicles can be seen passing through the road at the time when the person was being beaten.

Incidents of road rage is not a new phenomenon in Gurugram. In the past, there have been several incidents of violence owing to uncontrolled aggression experienced on the city road. Limited parking spaces have also contributed a great deal to the road rage incidents.

In different incidents, road rage has also resulted in the death of the victims. What makes the matter worse is the culture of open drinking around the city that further worsens the situation in some cases.

"Even after the Haryana Government's ban on the open drinking, people still flout the rules at Sukhrali and areas nearby Sector 17. Further, the problem of road rage is also a major problem in the area. Most of the commuters after dark drive rashly. There have been various incidents of altercation between the commuters in the area," said Sukhdev Sehrawat, a city resident.
