Rewari turning into hotbed of extortion, shootouts

Gururgam: There has been a steep in criminal activities in Rewari, with the worst instance of this trend seen when a policeman was shot dead in the process of capturing a gangster during a raid. Further, on Sunday, a jeweller was robbed of cash and valuables by an unidentified gang.

A spate of criminal activities in Rewari have been recorded, where gangsters are brazenly asking for extortion money and targetting people in public places. Last month, a group of unidentified people fired at a private hospital after they were unable to steal money from the management.

The incident prompted the doctors to call a strike in Gurgram to highlight the law and order situation of the town that is fifty kilometers from Gurugram.

Gurugram has been one of the most preferred spots for the gangs to operate. Owing to high real estate prices the city was earlier used for land grabs and extortion.

Now the paradigm of these gangs have shifted towards drugs trade, carjackings and bumping of the members from the rival gangs.

Controversial process involved during encounters, judicial intervention and high costs used for the department for encounter specialists has meant the change in strategy for the Gurugram Police.
