Retired Army officer found dead inside his flat in Noida

Noida: An 84-year-old retired officer of Indian Army was found dead inside his flat in sector 37 area of Noida on early Wednesday morning. Police officials said that the former officer lived alone and was ill from past few months. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Sher Singh Rathore. "Rathore is survived by three daughters who are based in the US," said police officials.

22-year-old Ankit, who works as a caretaker to Rathore and was the only person living with him, said that when he opened the door of the house on Wednesday morning, he found his master lying on the floor while a foul smell was coming out of the room.

"Around 7 am on Wednesday, a pungent smell was emanating from the house and upon opening the door, I found him lying on the floor and immediately informed police," said Ankit.

Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Station House Officer (SHO) of sector 39 police station told Millennium Post that the retired officer's attendant conveyed information to police.

"Upon getting the information, a police team rushed to the spot and took the body into custody which was sent for postmortem. As of now we cannot say when he had died but the body had started decomposing," said Sharma.

Meanwhile, police ruled out any foul play. "Rathore's servant told police that he was ill from past few months and was also a BP patient. We have not found any injury marks on the body and there is a possibility that the man had died because of a heart attack. The family members, who live in US, have been informed and they are supposed to reach Noida by Wednesday night. The actual reason behind the death can only be ascertained after postmortem reports," added Sharma.

In a similar incident reported in October 2018, a 52-year-old woman was found dead inside her apartment at a high rise residential society in sector 99 of Noida. Police said that the woman had died around 20-25 days ago and the neighbors informed police when they felt a foul smell coming out of the flat.

Residents of the society said that the woman lived alone in the apartment as she got separated to her husband few years ago while her son is a software engineer and lived in Bangalore. She was suffering from a serious kidney disorder and was on dialysis. As she lived alone and there was noone to look after her, she was unable to go for treatment and died when her condition deteriorated.
