Rehabilitation centre staffer shot at by drug addict

Greater Noida: A 24-year-old drug addict shot a bullet in leg of a rehabilitation centre's staffer when he had come with his team to pick up the drug addict for treatment at their de-addiction centre.
According to police, the incident occurred in Gejha village in Phase-2 area of Noida at around 4am on Tuesday. The victim identified as Vivek (26) had come up from Dehradun with a team of four members to pick the drug addict from his home following a call from his family members that their kin is an alcoholic and he needs treatment at the rehab centre.
Balwinder Tyagi, the drug addict, refused to go with the team and turned violent when they tried taking him away forcefully. The team from Jagriti Foundation, an NGO for drug addict, had a heated argument with Tyagi's family following which Balwinder shot a bullet in the leg of one of the staffers. The other staffers also ran away from there in order to save themselves.
Police said that the accused was under the influence of drugs when the incident took place.
"Upon receiving the information a police team rushed to the spot and took the victim to nearby hospital where doctors declared his condition to be critical. However accused drug addict, his father and brother fled away from the spot after the incident" said Shahwez Khan, station house officer, Phase-2 police station.
"We have registered a case of attempt to murder and are conducting search operations at various suspected locations to nab the accused" added Khan.
