Ramjas violence: Statements of two students recorded by Crime Branch

In a development of the Ramjas violence, the Crime Branch unit of Delhi Police tasked with the investigation of the case has recorded the statements of two St Stephen's College students. The students — a boy and a girl — had alleged that they were beaten up by ABVP supporters.

The duo had complained that they were pelted with stones and beaten up outside Ramjas College canteen by ABVP supporters. The girl had further alleged that she was pelted with stones by the ABVP supporters.

"We had contacted them a few days ago and so far, we have received a total of 25 complaints in connection with the case. We have contacted students to join the probe. AISA activists have said that they will come together to record their statement. We had also shared our email IDs with the students and in all, we have received 25 complaints," said a senior police officer privy to the investigation.

"There are some complaints that have claimed that while they were being roughed up, policemen were standing there. But none of the complainants have alleged that they were beaten up by the policemen," he said.

The police has also been visiting the Ramjas College authorities and talking to them to ensure that the campus returns to a situation of normalcy so that the students may continue with their studies.

"Since Ramjas College witnessed large-scale violence last week, officers had a word with representatives from the college. We told them to engage with students, irrespective of the ideologies they believe in," the official added.

Cops are also in the process of meeting principals of other DU colleges to ensure peace in the campus area.
