PWD reels under staff shortage

NEW DELHI: Delhi Public Works Department, which has task of implementation and maintaining infrastructure projects, is grappling with staff shortages. According to official reports, there are sanctioned posts in PWD are 3,292, out of which 1,302 posts are vacant.

Delhi government's projects include installation of 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras, Construction of flyovers, underbridges and Footover bridges, beautification of 500 km major-roads, construction of Mohalla clinics and School buildings, etc.

AAP government finds itself helpless when it comes to appointing , selecting, transferring and post staff besides expediting recruitment. The AAP government has been arguing that all Services related matters now fall in the L-G jurisdiction including the accountability of DSSSB.

Major Infrastructure Projects such as WiFi are also far behind schedules. The date for street-escaping bidding originally June 30 last year, has moved the December 31 this year, while the installation of 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras will only be completed by April 2020.
