Outer Delhi road mishap: Accused driver booked

New Delhi: A day after a 16-year-old girl was mowed down and seven others were injured by an SUV in outer Delhi's Meera Bagh area on Wednesday, investigators on Thursday claimed that the SUV driver had applied the accelerator instead of the brake, which caused the incident.

Police claimed that the inspection of the car was going on whether, to ascertain whether it had any problem. Meanwhile, Beharai has been booked in the case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla said that the driver of Fortuner car, identified as Dr Kamal Kumar Beharai, claimed that the car had an automatic transmission, and because he thought that there was a brake failure, he pulled the handbrake and lost control.

"We are investigating the case and forming the sequence of event. Questioning is going on in this regard," said the DCP.
