Noida: Panic in juvenile justice home after 5 inmates test +ve

Noida: Panic spread in a local juvenile justice home here after initial COVID-19 test reports of 13 minors housed there came back positive on Friday. However, after confirmatory tests, it was found that only five of them were positive for the contagious disease and all the 165

inmates have now been put under quarantine with officials still clueless about the source of infection.

Officials here added that as a precautionary measure, all the inmates of the juvenile justice home have been kept under isolation so that the spread of disease can be curbed.

According to a senior administrative officer, the initial tests were conducted through the rapid antigen method and these results had shown 13 minor inmates testing positive. However, the official said that after confirmatory RT-PCR tests were conducted for all 13 of these inmates, only five were confirmed to be Corona positive. The other eight inmates had tested negative in the RT-PCR test.

"Tests under RT-PCR were conducted of all the inmates, of which 120 were tested negative. It also came to light that eight out of the thirteen who were tested positive in antigen testing were tested negative. Five inmates were tested positive and they have been admitted to NIMS hospital for treatment," said Atul Kumar Soni, district probation officer, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The officer added that those inmates who had tested negative were discharged from the hospital while the others are getting treatment. Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of GB Nagar, Dr Deepak Ohrie has been suffering from high fever for the past

few days and has also tested positive for COVID-19. Dr Ohrie has been kept under home quarantine and is receiving treatment.

In Ghaziabad, the health department has conducted a test of all the pregnant

women admitted to the district hospital.

Officials said that out of 250 admitted women for treatment, nine pregnant women had tested positive for the contagious disease.
