NMRC to soon introduce e-bikes, cycles for last mile connectivity

Noida: In a bid to improve last mile connectivity, the Noida metro rail corporation (NMRC) is in the process of exploring various multimodal options at the Aqua metro line. The board will soon introduce e-bikes and cycles for public and have also identified spots for parking lots near metro station and housing societies.

Officials said that NMRC will implement innovative ideas at its stations to attract commuters. "NMRC is in the process of developing concept stations that will provide exclusive facilities to commuters. Since the introduction of the dedicated walkway between Sector 51 and Sector 52 metro stations of the NMRC and DMRC networks respectively has given a boost to the ridership, we want to launch similar facilities for commuters to benefit them," a senior NMRC official said.

The decision was taken in NMRC 22nd Board Meeting held at Nirman Bhawan, on Tuesday. This was the first Board Meeting attended by Ritu Maheshwari after taking charge as NMRC's Managing Director this month. The Board Meeting was basically held to approve the financial and audit reports of NMRC for the financial year 2018 –19. The Board also discussed the progress of Aqua Line and other facilities that NMRC has introduced for the commuters.

In the meeting, the Board reviewed NMRC's City Bus Service and expressed satisfaction with the progress in ridership and revenue of the City Bus.

The Board also advised the NMRC to implement innovative ideas at its stations to attract commuters. Non fare box initiatives by NMRC like co – branding, leasing of space, commercial development, etc. were also discussed.
