Inter-state dacoit with Rs 1 lakh reward arrested

Delhi Police has claimed to have arrested an interstate dacoit, who had carried a reward of Rs one lakh. The accused, Chandrama Prashad, is reportedly involved in more than 18 cases of robbery, dacoity, theft and Arms Act.

According to police, he, along with his associates, committed several robberies in Delhi and was wanted in a murder case registered at Adarsh Nagar police station.

The case came to light when the Crime Branch had constituted a team to clamp down on history-sheeters involved in heinous crimes. While working on a different case, the police team had to visit Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, where it came across inputs on the accused.

"While working on the case, the team received inputs about Prashad on 19 January. The information said that the accused would come near Gole Chakkar near Shah Alam Bandh Road at Jahangirpuri. He was on his way to meet his associates and had planned to commit several robberies in the national capital," said a senior police official.

Acting on the information, a trap was laid. The accused, Chandrama Prashad, was intercepted by the team. The accused took out a country-made pistol and tried to attack the raiding team, but he was overpowered and arrested.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was arrested by the UP Police in a number of cases. After pressure from UP police, he shifted to Delhi and started committing robberies with his associates near Azadpur Sabji Mandi.

"He was arrested in 2007 and 2008 by the police. After release from the jail, he constituted a gang with other associates Bhim, Vijay, Rakesh, Ramesh, Rampher, Sohan, Vijay Langda and Sada Chiranjeev Yadav. Efforts are under way to trace the remaining accused," said a senior police official.
