Gurugram police launch drive against drunken driving

With drunken driving being one of the major reasons for deadly accidents in the city, the Gurugram traffic police has intensified its drive against people who drink and drive. The Gurugram Traffic Police increased the number of professionals for conducting the vigil on drunken driving.

Women police officers have also been included in the drive to deal with drunken women drivers.

Purchase orders have also been placed by the Traffic Police department to procure adequate number of breathalysers to make sure that alcohol limit among the drivers is recorded correctly.

Most of the police officials have also been asked to conduct surveillance during the weekends as not only citizens from Gurugram but also people from other parts of Delhi- NCR frequent the pubs in the city.

Areas in the city where the police are conducting checks on drunken driving are Golf Course Road, Sohna Road, MG Road, Gurgaon-Faridabad Road and the Delhi border.

Police sources have also claimed that the drive will include other parts of the city, especially the older parts of the city in order to prevent accidents caused due to drunken driving.

Apart from people who visit pubs in the city, the police are also keeping a close track on various drivers who work in logistical units and in multi national companies (MNCs) in the city.

"Based on the past statistics, drunken driving is one of the main reasons for deadly accidents in the city. We want to reduce the number of accidents caused due to drunken driving and have started taking the required measures to prevent people from drunken driving," said a senior official from Gurugram Traffic Police.
