Newly-wed couple found dead inside their Indirapuram home

Ghaziabad: A newly-wed couple was found dead inside their house in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad on Monday evening. Police officials said that the man was found hanging with the ceiling fan while the woman's body was found lying on the bed.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Pravesh Kumar (36), a native of Baghpat district and Kanchan Gupta (24), native of Etawah district. The couple had a love marriage about a year ago and started living together at a rented house in Niti Khand-III area.

Cops said that the information was conveyed by Pravesh's mother who had gone to the house to meet them.

"Pravesh's mother along with her younger son reached the couple's house and found the door locked from inside. They felt a foul smell coming from the house and immediately alerted the police. A police team reached the spot and the door was broken in their presence. The man was found hanging with the ceiling fan while the woman's body was found lying on the bed with froth coming out of her mouth," said Nazir Ali Khan, station house officer, Indirapuram police station.

"Prima facie, it appears that the woman consumed some poisonous substances which resulted in her death. However, the bodies have been sent for the post mortem and forensic teams have collected finger prints and other evidences from the spot. Further investigations into the case are underway," added Khan.

Meanwhile, a few neighbours claimed that Kanchan had earlier filed a rape case against Pravesh after which they got married to each other but the case remained pending in the Ghaziabad court. Pravesh was also supposed to be present before the court on Monday for further proceedings. However, police officials said that the matter is being investigated and they can only comment after they question the family members.
