New blocks of AIIMS to be ready soon

New Delhi: Securing a bed for patients at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) would be a bit easier as the country's primer hospital is all set to make its four blocks operational in next few months, which will add around 925 beds. Moreover, 710-bed National Cancer Institute (NCI), Jhajjar, will be start its Out Patients Department with 250-bed strength in first phase.

Official on the condition of anonymity informed that all the expansion schemes are almost on the verge of completion and that can be thrown open for patients in next five to six months. However, "The Date for the inauguration of the NCI has not been decided as yet but it's for sure that its first phase will be operational by the last week of December," officials added.

They further informed that patients will be receiving treatment in some of the new building in the AIIMS in the next few months. A new surgical block with capacity of 200 beds and 12 fully equipped operation theaters will begin functioning shortly. Meanwhile, a new OPD block with a capacity of 6,500 patients with 570 rooms, will open soon.

The sources informed that almost 85 per cent of the construction work of New OPD has been accomplished. The 425-bed mother-child block is ready with 65 per cent construction completed.

The 113 rooms equipped with private ward has also been complete up to 60 per cent. Moreover, 100-bed burn and plastic surgery ward is 75 per cent constructed and 200-bed geriatric block is 21 per cent constructed.

Meanwhile, a 300 beds retiring house has been available in the Trauma center premises of AIIMS, patients and their attendants can avail the facility on concessional rates at this relaxation house after getting approval from the concerned doctors.

A senior official informed that by the end of 2019, patients will get the treatment in NCI and also surgical, maternal and child ward, New block OPD, Private ward and Burn and Plastic block will also be functional, however, the Geriatic Center will be fully operational by the year 2020.
