Neighbour arrested for rape of nine-year-old girl in Swaroop Nagar

New Delhi: A nine-year-old girl, reportedly mentally challenged, was raped in north west Delhi's Swaroop Nagar area, with Delhi Police claiming on Wednesday that they have arrested the accused in the case.
Police said that the incident was reported on Tuesday evening, after the girl's parents saw her bleeding from the privates and informed the police.
The 42-year-old father of the girl told Millennium Post that on Tuesday evening, the girl had gone outside to play in her locality.
However, when she did not return for a long time, the family members started searching for her. Soon, two men came to the house accompanied by the girl.
"Her clothes were wet and I told my wife to change her clothes when she noticed bleeding, after which we made a PCR call and she was taken to the hospital," said the father.
He added that the girl was unable to speak, "so she told us about the incident through gestures by her hands."
In the meantime, police started their investigation and found that one of the girl's neighbour person was missing.
He was soon located at nearby bus stop, trying to flee the city and was arrested after he confessed to the crime.
The accused Sonu, who works as a caterer, revealed to cops that he took the girl to an isolated place in their locality and assaulted her.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan said, "The girl was threatened by the accused with dire consequences, if she revealed it to anyone."
When the girl's father was asked about her health condition, he stated that it was not serious.
"She is speaking very few words, but the doctor says she will be able to speak within some time. She understands several things," said the father, who works as a driver.
