NBW issued against Ashish Pandey for brandishing gun

New Delhi: A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Ashish Pandey who is hiding in UP from the combined team of Delhi Police and UP Police. Ashish, the son of former BSP MP Rakesh Pandey was caught on mobile camera for threatening a couple with a gun at the foyer of a five-star Hotel in Delhi. After the visuals of Ashish were aired on news channels, the UP police have also initiated the process to cancel Ashish Pandey's arms licence.

It is said that Ashish got the licence of a pistol in the year 2000 from Ambedkar Nagar district. However, if he was using the licenced weapon would only be clarified after his arrest.

The Delhi police has also issued a show cause notice to Hyatt Regency hotel asking why actions shouldn't be taken against them for delaying to report the matter to police timely. The police said they received the complaint on the incident on Monday from the assistant security manager of the hotel, even though altercation took place late on Saturday. The video of the incident went viral on social media on Tuesday.

The Delhi Police and the UP police are using technical surveillance to trace the location of Ashish Pandey. He was found absconding from his home Santushti Apartment in Hazratganj in Lucknow. There are also reports that he could be looking for legal options and might opt for surrender or anticipatory bail. Sources say that he is somewhere in eastern UP. Police might, however, try to catch him before he tries his legal options.

Meanwhile, the victim Kanwar Gaurav has asked for protection from Delhi Police. "I am scared for my life. I have a small child. Please provide protection and acknowledge my complaint," he said.

Ashish's brother Ritesh Pandey, sitting MLA from Jalalpur in UP, has said that they are cooperating in the ongoing investigation. "We have already issued Look out Circular to all airports so that he doesn't fly out of the country. Our teams are confident of apprehending the accused very soon," said Joint CP Ajay Chowdhary.
