Mystery shrouds death of 3-yr-old, mother's suicide bid

NEW DELHI: In a macabre incident reported on Saturday, a 25-year-old woman was found critically injured after an alleged suicide attempt, while her three-year-old daughter and 18-month-old son were found severe stab wounds on their neck at their residence in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar.

Police said that while the daughter succumbed to her injuries, the son and the mother are fighting for their lives at the hospital.

According to police, a call was received around 10.50 am on Saturday from a neighbour, claiming that the woman Mohsina has slit her own throat and also attacked her children.

Soon, a team from Malviya Nagar police station rushed to the spot and found the three in a pool of blood. All were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but the three-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries.

Cops are still investigating all angles, including the possibility of an outsider's entry.

Cops said that Mohsina is a resident of Malviya Nagar's Hauz Rani area, and her husband Shamim is an auto driver, who was not at home when the incident happened.

Sources said that cops and Mohsina's in-laws, who live nearby, were informed after someone heard the cries of her children from the house.

"A case under section 302 and 307 (of the Indian Penal Code) has been registered. Further investigation in the case is underway. The scene of the crime is being inspected by crime team and forensic experts," said Vijayantha Arya, Additional Deputy Commisioner of Police (South).

Police are now gathering the information about the family to know if they had any domestic issues.

However, they have not yet ruled out the possibility of someone entering the house forcibly and stabbing the family.

Police are waiting for Mohsina to gain consciousness and be in a position to give a statement, which would shed more light on the investigation.
