'Mother pushed me to save my life'

New Delhi: At her small house in Dwarka's Kakrola, 17-year-old Sunita (name changed) lays on the bed, with injury marks on her ears. Unable to sleep due to pain and tears rolling down her eyes, she says her mother Vibha died trying to save her two daughters.

Vibha's live-in partner Akhilesh Pal had mowed her down and injured her two daughters in the wee hours of Tuesday.

"She saved me by giving her own," said the inconsolable Sunita, with her 18-month-old sister who was also injured sleeping nearby.

Her family claimed that the toddler's had peeled off a little in the back during the accident.

"I was going with my mother after taking my sister, when Akhilesh came behind us with his truck. My mother pushed and my sister away," said the teenager.

Around 6 am on Friday, Sunita called her maternal grandmother and told her to collect Vibha's body from the hospital.

"We did not know about the incident. I just got a call about my daughter having died. She was regularly beaten by Akhilesh, but she never told any of family members about it," said the maternal grandmother.

Sunita works as a sales girl and earns around Rs 4,000-5000, to help run the house, the grandmother family claimed.

"How will I recover from my injury now? I don't have any money and I have to take care of my two siblings also," said Sunita.

Sunita's maternal grandparents claimed that they do petty jobs to feed the family and the toddler will now be searching for her mother when she awakens from her sleep.

"Where will I bring her mother from? She has left all of us," said the sobbing grandmother.

On Thursday night, cops arrested Pal from Dwarka Mor while he was trying to flee the city.
