Minor girl delivers baby in school washroom, rapist held
A man has been arrested for impregnating a 15-year-old girl, who delivered a premature baby inside the washroom of a government school in Mukherjee Nagar area. The 50-year-old accused is a neighbour of the girl and has been arrested under POCSO Act and section 376 of the IPC, police said.
The Class X girl had gone to the school to give an exam on Thursday, when she experienced severe stomach ache and went to the washroom. However, the authorities later realised she was pregnant and ended up delivering a premature baby.
The girl was rushed to a hospital and police were informed. When asked, the girl told police that she had been raped on several occasions by her neighbour during the past year.
The man had been sexually exploiting her and threatened her and gave her money not to tell anyone about it, said police.
The accused was later identified by the girl and arrested on Friday. He hails from Bihar and works as an auto-rickshaw driver in Delhi.
During interrogation, the accused revealed to cops that he had given the girl some abortion pills after she told him about her stomach pains.
However, he was unaware that the pills failed to work, a police official said. In fact, the pills created complications due to which the girl delivered the premature baby in just its 26th week. The baby has been admitted to hospital and is currently safe.
Reportedly, even the girl's parents did not have any inkling that their daughter was pregnant and ignored her calls for help, thinking that her stomach problem was merely a gastric ailment.
