MCD polls: BJP shortlists 3K from 30K hopefuls, first list soon

The election committee of BJP is examining nearly 3,000 names of applicants the for party ticket for MCD polls, and the first list of candidates is expected in next two days.

Around 30,000 ticket applications were received by the party and the election committee met on Wednesday at Delhi BJP office and shortlisted "serious contenders", that number around 3000.

The names will be further discussed as there are on an average 12 applicants from each of the 272 wards in three Municipal Corporations.

The polls for 272 MCD wards are scheduled for April 23.

"The committee is in the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming MCD elections. The party will ensure selection of the candidates within the next two days," said a Delhi BJP statement.

Following discussions with the district presidents and MPs, the names of "serious candidates" were presented before the committee, it said
