Man who robbed foreigner and an Armyman held

NEW DELHI: An Indonesian worker who was in India had lost all his savings to a Delhi thief in driving a TSR. He was in a traumatic state until the Delhi police arrested the accused driver and recovered all his belongings and foreign currency.
The Indonesian filed a complaint at Chanakyapuri police station that his bag containing foreign currency has been stolen. The police team gathered data of such thefts and studied the modus operandi.
While conducting enquiries, the team obtained CCTV footage of one such incidents in which a bag lifter was spotted. Cops started developing the lead and one of their informers identified the man as Imtaz Mia. He further provided specific input that the accused moves by TSR for targeting innocent passengers.
The team immediately swung into action and laid a trap near the New Delhi Railway Station. The TSR was located and later on its driver Emtiaz Mia was interrogated about the case.
During the interrogation, the accused admitted that he targets such passengers who are coming from outside Delhi and before dropping them at their destination, he makes excuses and as he gets a chance he flees with the bag. In this instance, the bag with foreign currency and mobile phone was recovered from his residence. The stolen bag with foreign currency worth $3,881 5.76 lakh Indonesian Rupiah, 26 Malaysian Ringgit and a mobile phone have been recovered from the accused.
"The accused has been staying in Delhi for 10 years. He is illitrate and drive rented auto in Delhi and NCR for trapping such innocent passengers. During interrogation, it has also been revealed that he had lifted another bag from Delhi Cantt around six months ago and it may be related to an Army officer," said Madhur Verma, DCP, New Delhi.
