Man wanted in 51 cheque bounce cases arrested

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Tuesday said they have arrested a man wanted in 51 cases for cheque bounce.

Police said that accused Mirza Naeem Baig, arrested on Monday night from his residence in Faridabad, was one of the directors of a fake company which cheated several people.

He was declared a proclaimed offender and had been absconding for three years.

A woman complainant had alleged she was persuaded by the company to sell them ready-made garments on credit and was presented a rosy picture of the said company, as well as assured returns on the credit.

The complainant sent the garments to the company for a sum of Rs four lakh, and the alleged directors gave eight cheques of Rs 50,000 each to her.

When she took them to the bank, all were dishonoured.

Moreover, Baig, as well as the other accused directors, did not appear before court despite being served notices at his Delhi addresses.

Baig deliberately evaded proceedings by changing his addresses and was finally declared as 'absconder' by the court.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal on Tuesday said, "During investigation, details of the alleged director and his company were collected from the banks.

"Another director of the company, who was appearing in court, was interrogated."

"Several raids were conducted at the address of the accused, but he was not found at any of his addresses. The team further mounted technical surveillance and secret informers were also deployed and he was finally arrested," the DCP added.
