Man, paramour held for kidnapping his newborn

New Delhi: A 28-year-old man who kidnapped his newborn daughter and abandoned her in another state, so as to live with his paramour was arrested from Shahdara district, police said on Sunday.
Police said that along with accused Shyam Babu, they also arrested his girlfriend, for kidnapping his three-month-old daughter born with his wife. A resident of Dilshad Garden, Shyam Babu works as a plumber on contract with IGL.
The infant was rescued from Ghaziabad on Saturday, and is receiving treatment at a hospital.
On March 23, a PCR call was received from Dilshad Garden's Kalander colony, wherein Babu said that his wife told him that their daughter had gone missing. Immediately, a case under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Ved Prakash Surya said that Babu was having an extra-marital affair with the co-accused and the two had an argument about the baby a few days ago.
"The girlfriend was angry with him as he had stopped meeting him after the birth of his child," said Surya.
Police said that during investigation, Babu's wife disclosed that he had threatened to divorce her once and that he had an affair before their marriage, but she had no knowledge of any current affair.
"Shyam used to fight with his wife and told her to leave his house, as he wanted to live with his girlfriend. But his wife refused, asking him who will care of the newborn child," said the senior police officer.
Police said that after their search operation, Babu's girlfriend was taken into custody.
Babu and the woman were further interrogated separately, and the woman eventually admitted that she and Shyam Babu hatched the plan to kidnap the infant, so that he could continue his illicit affair.
She disclosed that after kidnapping the child, they abandoned her at Chamunda temple, Abhay Khand, Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.
Soon, teams were rushed to the location and on local enquiry, it was found that an infant was found at the temple and handed over to local police.
Ghaziabad Police had admitted the child to a hospital, where her condition is stable.
"Both the woman and accused made the plan that if the child was taken away from the mother, she will leave the house and after which they (Shyam and girlfriend) can live happily," said the police official.
