Man kills wife, surrenders at police station in S Delhi

NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old man in South Delhi strangulated his wife to death, locked his house and reached Malviya Nagar police station to inform about the crime. A team of policemen from the police station were rushed to verify this information. The body of the deceased woman Deepika Mongia (31) was found lying on the floor in the house.

Sumit Mongia (38), the accused was immediately arrested by the police. He is a resident of Khirki Ext, Malviya Nagar. The accused owns a business of glasswork in the windows in South Delhi. The reason he told police for killing his wife was 'frequent fights'. DCP South Delhi Atul Kumar Thakur said, "The accused husband on Wednesday came to Malviya Nagar police station at around 11 am and informed the staff that he had killed his wife Deepika Mongia by strangulating her at his house."

"After killing his wife at around 9:30 am, he locked the house and rushed at Police Station to inform the incident. The accused confessed that he murdered his wife since they used to have frequent fights over petty issues," DCP Atul Thakur said. The accused was married with Deepika on November 23, 2009 and has two children. The accused murdered his wife when his children went to school.

"A police team compliance with the accused was immediately rushed at the crime scene where the body of the deceased woman was found. The body has been sent for autopsy and a case of murder has been registered," the DCP said.
