Livid over his daughter's affair, man strangled her to death

New Delhi: In a suspected case of honour killing, a man with the help of his friend strangled his daughter to death in North West Delhi's Adarsh Nagar area. Police have arrested the accused in the case. Investigation revealed that the father was unhappy over his daughter's affair with a boy and hatched the plan to kill her and make it look like a suicide.

Police said that the accused, a 50-year-old man, and his friend (30) are the residents of North West Delhi. A police officer, elaborating more about the case, stated that on July 24 a secret informer came at Adarsh Nagar police station and informed that a girl has committed suicide and her family members have taken her to the cremation ground in a hurry.

"On receipt of the information, sub-inspector Ravi Kumar along with head constable Mohan reached Azadpur area, where it was learned that family members of the girl have taken the body for cremation at Kewal Park cremation ground," police said. Both the police personnel reached cremation ground and found that the body of girl Sheetal has been put on the pyre and all arrangements have been made to burn the body. The policemen stopped the ritual.

For further investigation, the girl was shifted to a hospital where the doctors declared "patient brought dead". Therefore body was shifted to the mortuary where post mortem was conducted. "The doctor mentioned multiple external injuries and cause of death, in this case, was asphyxia due to manual strangulation (throttling). All the injuries are antemortem. Later a case was registered," police said.

The Delhi Police on Monday said that based on the post-mortem report, the police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested the two accused on Sunday. They have confessed their involvement in the commission of the offence. "The father was unhappy with her daughter's affair with the boy and he had also warned her," police added. A police officer said that further investigation is on and the role of other suspects is also being probed. They have questioned several persons in this regard.
