LG inaugurates SDMC's two waste management machines

New Delhi: Anil Baijal, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, on Saturday inaugurated South Delhi Municipal Corporation's (SDMC) two TPD aerobic composters in East of Kailash and Chirag Dilli respectively.

Speaking at the event, LG Baijal described this as a step ahead in the daily waste management.

Referring to the fast increasing population in Delhi and limited resources available, Baijal exhorted the local bodies to make all efforts to conserve natural resources.

"The population of Delhi was just 20 lakh in 1977, which increased ten times today at 20 million. This is the reason in the big stride in the generation of waste. It is a daunting challenge to manage and process entire quantity of waste," he said.

Baijal also stated that it is becoming difficult to dump waste at land fill sites.

"Further, it is difficult to establish new sites because of scarcity of land and from the opposition of the local population, where landfill site is planned for establishment," he added.

The LG also applauded South Delhi Municipal Corporation for taking new initiatives and expressed his pleasure over its efforts in developing greenery, beautification and public art underneath a number of flyovers.
