Kerala flood relief: SDMC gives Rs 3.2 cr to Home Min

NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Narender Chawla, along with Leader of House Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel, on Saturday presented a cheque for Rs 3.2 crore to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his residence here as relief for flood-affected victims of Kerala.

The amount will go to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and has been collected by 43,000 employees of the South Delhi civic body who contributed their one day basic salary.

The three Additional Commissioners Randhir Sahay, Rahul Garg and Umesh Tyagi, as well as Director (Press and Information) Radha Krishan were also present on the occasion.

Chawla said that the contribution is a humble humane help and was much needed keeping in view the large scale loss of lives and properties in the devastating floods, "which not only destroyed the economy of the state but forced the citizens to put up in open after losing their houses."
