JNUSU unaffected by JNU's 6th ranking, disappointed over seat cut and other issues

Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) were not exuberant over the good news of their University ranking.
They further stated that massive seat cuts, academic murder, social justice cut, fellowship cut and a visionless Vice Chancellor is what the University has been rewarded with.

With Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) being ranked at number six in the overall University rankings and also managing second position in the category in the top ten Universities in India, the students of the University alleged that no stone has been left unturned in creating a roadblock in the path of JNU's progress.

In a reply to a tweet by JNU Vice Chancellor, M Jagadesh Kumar which stated- "JNU stands tall again with its focus on academic excellence.

First among central universities." , Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union President, Mohit Pandey said, "Ranked top, but what we get as rewards is massive seat cuts, academic murder, social justice cut and now a fellowship cut and a visionless VC."

Students of the varsity expressed their dissatisfaction over the ranking and highlighted one of the major losses of JNU's unique feature that is the deprivation points in the new admission prospectus for academic session 2017-18.

According to the students, the decent ranking of the University has just been secured to maintain the University's good image and to portray that academic wise, it is the best in the town.

"I am not proud of this ranking. We are losing the quality of our University. Every democratic fabric of the university is being destroyed. Then what this rank is for?," said a student of Medieval History in JNU.

Meanwhile, students expressing their agitation alleged that JNU in under an attack by the University Grants Commission as several changes made in the University has affected the students and all their efforts have gone in vain.

Earlier, students of the varsity had staged several protests demonstration against their various concerns about the seat cuts, loss of deprivation points, etc. in JNU.

One of the major concerns of the students was the 86 per cent seat cut in the JNU approved research seats, offering only 194 seats for research aspirants. Despite several attempts and uproars, the major concern of the students is left unnoticed.

The students had recently, protested outside UGC building against the implication of the UGC's Gazette Notification dated May 5, 2016.
