Jain holds first meet as minster of I&FC department

NEW DELHI: After being handed over charge of the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department, Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain held the first departmental meeting on organisational structure, internal and external management and preparedness of monsoon on Saturday.

"The minister has asked all agencies to furnish daily reports. During the meeting, the reason behind the Minto Bridge waterlogging was identified and now a pipe is being laid in front of the building on DDU Marg where the drain had been closed," said an official.

He added that no waterlogging was found during the last rain on July 18 and all agencies have been directed to prepare their pumps and other essential equipment ready to deal with all situations.

While the Municipal Corporations were represented by engineers and other senior officials, representatives of Delhi Development Authority and the Railways did not attend the meeting.

Jain, the Public Works Department Minister, took over the I&FC portfolio from Cabinet colleague Gopal Rai earlier this week.

The change in Rai's portfolio has been made to ensure coordination between the I&FC and the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, a Delhi government official stated.

The two government agencies are mandated to carry out development works in unauthorised colonies across the national Capital.
