Jaguar patrolling team takes charge in Dwarka distt

New Delhi: In addition to busting international drug cartels, Delhi Police is now tightening the noose on sellers of illicit liquor and drugs in the city, as the special Jaguar patrolling team has been launched in Dwarka district.

The district police has also taken action against those police personnel who are found to be negligent in duty.

Recently, 10 policemen in two police stations of Dwarka faced consequences after the district vigilance team found them guilty of negligence.

Launched in Dwarka for the first time, the Jaguar team – comprising 80 policemen in 40 motorcycles across 10 police stations – has been tasked with stoping street crime as well as sale of illicit liquor and drugs.

An police officer claimed that during a meeting, newly-appointed Deputy Commissioner of Dwarka Anto Alphonse told all the distrcit staff that their hard work will be appreciated with reward, but if they were found to be negligent they would face stringent action.

Patrolling by the Jaguar teams start early in the day in Dwarka's posh areas, cracking down on snatchings and other similar crimes. Later, the team visits places vulnerable to illegal activities, with Dabri subdivision being the focus area.

The move is also aimed at reclaiming public spaces from anti-social elements. For instance, if people are found drinking liquor or playing gambling in parks, the action is immediately taken on the spot.

Alphonse said, "Police presence on the streets make the citizens feel safe. We are taking different steps to curb illegal activities."

Between July 12 and 21, the Jaguar team inspected over 3,000 vehicles, after which punitive action was taken against more than 400 persons under sections 65 and 66 of the Delhi Police act, as well as section 40 (A) of the Excise Act.

Last year's police data shows that over 300 cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and 456 persons were arrested.

Moreover, 13 lakh bottles of illicit liquor were seized.
