In GBM meet, JNUTA demands removal of V-C

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) on Friday in its resolution appealed to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to intervene over the fee hike issue and demanded the removal of Vice-Chancellor from his post.

"The JNUTA GBM resolves to appeal to the Honourable Visitor to intervene and put a check on the JNU VC's continued misgovernance by removing him from office in order to save the University," said the statement from JNUTA.

Meanwhile, the teachers have said they are going to take this demand to the ministry on December 9. Students and teachers will continue protesting against the fee hike issue.

In a resolution, circulated after a Governing Body Meet (GBM) by JNUTA on Friday, they applauded the students for their struggle and blamed the administration for a chaotic like situation on the campus.

"The JNUTA GBM condemned the concerted and illegal attempt of the JNU Admin to manufacture and notify a schedule for end semester examinations across all centres and schools, and to browbeat teachers on and through this," said a JNUTA statement. It further added that this is unacceptable by the teachers.

The JNUTA GBM reiterated that its position that the JNU VC and his decision on hostel charges are the only barriers to restore an environment of normalcy.

"Teachers are committed to the interests of the students in every sense and will not accept under any circumstances the VC's machinations," added JNUTA GBM.

Even after HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal assured a delegation of MPs, for a solution, no relief seems to be in sight. Holding MHRD responsible for the crisis in JNU, JNUTA said, "After having initiated a process with the explicitly stated objective of restoring normalcy through a process of dialogue, the MHRD appears to have developed cold feet or come to an understanding with the JNU VC." The high committee report on JNU was due two weeks back.
