In a first, Bio CNG to be produced from cow dung in Ggn

Gurugram: In a first of its kind, the Central Government will collaborate with the Haryana government to produce bio-CNG from cow dung. The plant will be set up in the cowshed of Carterpuri. The ambitiousness of this initiative can be gauged from the fact that this will be the first major project in North India.

According to the source, the CNG will be helpful in running the vehicles. Various public officials have visited the cowshed to study the feasibility of the project.

It has not been decided that how much CNG is expected to be produced from the project. "Alternative sources of energy is the need of the hour. We hope that this initiative if successful will be crucial in reducing our dependence on oil and diesel," said a senior public official.

Taking cognisance of the limited number of CNG pumps, the project holds significance as the number of vehicles running on CNG is also increasing in the city.

There are 25 CNG pumps in the city at present.

The Haryana Government has set a target of 50 more CNG pumps in the city. They have also simplified the process so that more tenders can be invited. To ensure that there is more transparency in the process the state government will now be auctioning the plots for the petrol and CNG pumps online.
