I-Day restrictions cause heavy snarls in Ggn

Gurugram: The first working day of the week proved to be a harrowing experience for lakhs of commuters in Gurugram using the National Highway-8, which saw a three kilometre-long traffic jam starting from Sirhaul to IFFCO Chowk where lakhs of commuters dealt with hour-long traffic snarls.

The main reason for the traffic blockade was the restriction of the movement of heavy vehicles in Delhi owing to the security arrangements for Independence Day.

Hundreds of trucks move each day towards the national Capital from Gurugram to deliver essential goods and services.

Many truckers claimed they were not aware about the restrictions of their movement in the city, which led to the confusion.

"There must be a proper system that should be maintained during these times. Forget about the office-goers, we are used getting stuck in long jams. The problem is that even emergency vehicles like ambulances also get stranded in these jams," said a local resident.

There are over 10 lakh vehicles that move daily on the highway. Sirhaul, Shankar Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Hero Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Kherki Dhaula are some major traffic intersection points located along NH-8.
