HRD officials meet DUTA over ad-hoc teachers' fiasco

New Delhi: Officials from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) met the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) on Thursday over the ad-hoc issue.

Speaking to Millennium Post Hansraj Mehta, a former member of DU Academic Council, who was also present at the protest said, "DUTA has asked all ad-hoc teachers to meet on Friday, where a decision on the matter will be taken."

Meanwhile, the DU administration held a meeting with DUTA on Wednesday night, and have appealed them to withdraw their agitation. "The University administration is open to discuss any relevant issue in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect," a member of the administration said.

In a decision taken by Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA), it was decided that the ad-hoc teachers will go on an indefinite strike. The decision was taken against the DU circular issued August 28,

which mandates that only appointment of guest teachers can be made against substantive vacancies arising for the first time in the current academic session.

The teachers are demanding the withdrawal of the circular and a one-time regulation for the absorption of ad-hoc teachers. "Every four months, the contracts of ad-hoc teachers are renewed but it has not happened owing to the August 28 letter, which has put the future of almost 4,500 ad-hoc teachers in jeopardy," said a teacher during the protest.
