Home buyers protest against Amrapali owner

Harassed by builder, ignored by government, irate home buyers of Greater Noida West protested against the Amrapali builder at Gaur city roundabout on Saturday afternoon. Huge traffic snarls emerged on the highway as scores of home buyers sat on the road and blocked the passage.

Loud slogans were raised against the managing director of the Amrapali builder group, Anil Sharma, declaring him to be a crook. Police were also blamed in their slogans for not considering their complaint to register an FIR against the builder.

A protester told Millennium Post: "We have invested all our savings to buy a flat for us. For the past several years, we have been fighting for our houses but no one is listening to us. Neither the authority nor the government is ready to take action against the builder. We are afraid that Anil Sharma will be the next Vijay Mallya who fled from the country. The police are also not ready to register an FIR against the builder. Strict and immediate actions should be taken against the builder else the buyers will be the one who will be majorly affected. The builder's Visa and Passport should be seized immediately. We will lead a massive protest soon."

The police came into action after an hour and chased the innocent home buyers using batons. The protesters alleged that the police assaulted them physically as well as verbally and thrashed an elderly person with a lathi causing internal injuries and bruises.

People belonging to the middle class strata invest their lifetime savings to pay for their dream home but the negligence and the swindling nature of the builders bring them hand to mouth as they bear the pressure of rent as well as EMIs. The helpless home buyers, even after having made nearly the full payments to the builder, have to sit on the road and protest for their home.

Amrapali builder is already declared under deep crisis by the authority owing nearly Rs 1,500 crore to the authority. With over a dozen of projects in Noida Extension, the builder's group has failed to complete any of them affecting 30 to 40 thousand home buyers who have invested their life time savings into the projects. The buyers are worried that the builder can flee from the country duping thousands of home buyers.
