Gurugram residents dead against waste segregation site coming up in Aravallis

GURUGRAM: The residents of G block of DLF Phase-1 and Silver Oaks condominiums refuse to budge on the order of Gurugram civic body to set up a waste segregation site near the green belt area of Aravallis
The aggrieved citizens highlight that not only the move will cause extreme inconvenience to tem but it will also be a detrimental step in further spoiling the already degrading Aravallis.
There are further allegations that the work on the segregation plant that has already been started is being done on the drainage systems that will affect the water supply in the area.
To bring forth their concerns, the residents have raised the issue not only with the deputy commissioner but have also met other senior officials so that the work can be stopped.
To tackle the mounting garbage at the Bandhwari landfill site, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram signed a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese company for effective recycling of waste.
In this process the civic body along with the company had chosen the green belt area of Aravallis for recycling the waste from where it will proceed to Bandhwari for further treatment.
"Aravallis are the lungs of the city and because of it we get some fresh air to breathe. Now with this move the authorities want to systematically destroy it. There are other areas also in the city why is it that only Aravallis is chosen," said Lata Kumar, a Gurugram resident.
This is not for the first time when the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has faced the wrath of the citizens for destroying Aravallis.
Even the 30 acres of Bandhwari landfill site is been set up in Aravallis. Initially created for a plant to convert waste into energy, the plant had being lying defunct for more than four years.
