Gurugram girl ends life after hoax call from relative

Gurugram: Fake calls are not a new phenomenon to the residents of Gurugram but the recent incident has further increased the danger of people using hoax calls to fulfill their ulterior motives.

In order to extract revenge from a family, a disgruntled relative reportedly called the daughter of his adversary and falsely told her that he had killed her father and mother. He then also threatened to eliminate her. Under fear, the 15-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan. The culprit is still at large.

First such case has been reported from the city where fake call was reportedly used with an intent to kill the person. For long, criminals have been using the fake calls to extract vital information from the residents and then siphon off their money.

Six out of 10 cyber crimes today are still done with the modus operandi of fake callers posing themselves as bank professionals and thereby taking vital information from the residents. Moreover, various fake call centres have been unearthed in the city which financially duped people from foreign countries.

Taking cognizance of the major law and order challenge, the Gurugram police has been issuing various guidelines to the consumers to not fall into the trap of such fake agents. Various fake call centres have also been busted in and around Gurugram.

The challenge to the law enforcement officials can be gauged from the fact that most of the cases have yet not been solved and they are in the preliminary investigation stages. To tackle the cyber crimes, a dedicated cyber crime police station has been set up in

the city.
