Govt distributes Unique ID cards to beneficiaries of disabled persons

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has issued Unique ID cards to the beneficiaries of disabled persons across the city. Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam stated this during the inauguration of International Day of Disabled Persons, 2018 here on Wednesday. "Unique ID Cards have been issued to the beneficiaries. UDID card is an important project to facilitate access of disabled to various government services and benefits," Gautam said.

The Welfare minister asserted that training cum production centres of the dept are being revived with the aim to revitalise these centres through NSDC and the department of training and technical education. The Social Welfare Minister informed that notification of Delhi Rules under Rights of persons with Disabilities (RPWD)Act, 2016 is at final stage. After incorporating all the suggestions this would be notified shortly.

"The department is developing new schemes for assisting persons with high support needs and also develop institutes for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities which will be apex bodies for guiding and training personnel required for effective service delivery to persons with disabilities. the department is also going to set up State Advisory Board and District Level committees under the new act," a senior officer said. Keeping in view the needs of persons with disabilities and the increase in the categories of persons with disabilities from 7 to 21, Dept has decided to set up a separate dept. for PwDs.

A committee has been set up to suggest to suggest the structure of the new dept and is working on this issue. Dept. is proposing to expand services to the persons with disabilities by redeveloping Lampur complex for housing intellectually challenged and also setting up homes for the intellectually challenged at Usmanpur and Dallupura.
