Goodbye ITO, Delhi Police gets new 'Home' at Jai Singh Marg

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday got its much-awaited new headquarters, a 17-storey building in Lutyens' Zone inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Jai Singh Road, New Delhi. The event which coincided with 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first home minister of independent India was also attended by Anil Baijal, LG, Delhi, G Kishan Reddy, MoS (Home), Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Union Home Secretary, GoI, Amulya Patnaik, CP/Delhi and Vijay Dev, Chief Secy, GNCT of Delhi.

The state-of-the-art complex which has been named 'Adarsh' is constructed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model is spread over an area of 8.092 acres and is centrally located in the vicinity of Parliament house. The new building has twin towers with Ground + 17 storeys, along with 12 residential quarters for officers.

The salient features of the building include its design and safety against Earth Quake for seismic zone 5. In order to make it environment-friendly, fly ash bricks and AAC blocks using adhesive compound have been used to avoid use of fertile soil and water as required for conventional mortar and curing. There are provisions of the rainwater harvesting system for complete utilisation of rainwater and modern sewage treatment plant for complete recycling of sewage waste for horticulture and flushing.

The entire building has been fitted with the latest LED lights and windows with DGU glasses for minimum power consumption.

The building will be disabled-friendly and will have provisions for crèche/child-friendly room. The public facilitation officers at receptions will give a feeling of belongingness to the aggrieved persons visiting the headquarters. Also, there is a future provison of a helipad on the top of the building to be used under emergency situations.

Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, in his welcoming address assured everyone that with this new complex, Delhi Police will be able to serve society with renewed vigour and self-confidence.

The Home Minister Amit Shah observed that the police is perpetually projected in a negative light in popular media, but the sacrifices made round-the-clock by officers and jawans to ensure the safety of citizens are seldom highlighted.

"Such a kind of negative projection demoralises our police force. The public image of police needs to change,"

he said.

The home minister said the government is working with a "well-planned, time-bound and scientific strategy" under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to correct this situation.

He also advised policemen to be more responsive towards citizens, especially

the aggrieved ones and this mutual respect and sensitivity will give a new identity to the force.

Retired police Commissioners, senior officers

and men of Delhi Police, representatives of RWAs/MWAs, YUVA trainees and Police Mitras were also present on the occasion.
