Four months on, no EWS admissions in Ggn pvt schools

Gurugram: Over four months have passed since results were announced by Gurugram private schools about children who will be admitted in under the economically weaker section (EWS) category. Yet, complaints of children not being given their legal right by the private school continue to be reported on a large scale.

A similar incident came to the fore on Monday after two children from the EWS category were denied admission by a private school, on the claim that their documentation was not complete.

Ironically, the documents these two children have been verified by the public agencies.

The district administration has taken a strict stance against private schools that are yet to admit the students under the EWS quota.

The administration has, so far, summoned the senior management of 19 private schools which are yet to admit 98 students under EWS quota.

One of the reasons cited by the private schools is that most of candidates are submitting fake certificates of EWS category. Taking cognisance of this problem, the district administration will probe the matter within the time span of 15 days.

Despite various reminders by the Haryana education department, most private schools in Gurugram have been flouting the rules set by the government and not disclose the information on EWS admissions.

Already under fire for charging hefty fees from parents, Gurugram's private schools have also been blamed for not giving information on the seats available to avoid admissions of EWS students. The reluctance of private schools to not allow EWS category students has resulted in most such students availing education through non- registered schools, thereby not availing the government benefits.

Meanwhile, already miffed with the approach of private schools towards charging heft school fees, many parents once again lashed out over the opaque functioning of private educational institutes.

Amid a host of allegations against the working of private schools in the city, one significant accusation has been adopting the discriminatory attitude towards economically weak students.

The telling story on the state of education, especially in the context of EWS students, was revealed when recently over 50 per cent of students failed in their annual examinations.
