Drive against plastic use: SDMC Commissioner lauds team effort

New Delhi: SDMC on Monday claimed to utilize its entire manpower to pick up the desired momentum in 'Say No to Plastic' under "Swachhta hi Sewa" initiative in all localities coming under the jurisdiction of South Body. SDMC Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti has commended the untiring and concerted efforts of the various departments and has asked the team members to keep it up with similar spirit and zeal which helped SDMC in displaying its splendorous performance during "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan".

According to the officials, SDMC created a record by organizing 7,956 events to make people understand the need and relevance of the plastic ban including single use plastic ban as elaborated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address on Independence Day from the rampart of Red Fort. The highest 3421 number of events has been organized under Nazafgarh Zone wherein pledges have been taken by the school children, RWAs, MTAs members and organizations. During these events, a number of skit play, drawing & quiz completions and meetings with various bodies were also organized. It is worthwhile to mention that the participation of highest number of 168 schools has been from the central zone out of total 623 numbers of schools joining in making school children understand about the dangerous effects of plastic use in daily life.

The SDMC strived hard to ensure participation of 1139 RWAs, the highest 663 in Nazafgarh Zone; 1343 Market Traders Association, the highest 750 in Nazafgarh Zone and spirited participation of 20,163 Safai Karamcharis, the highest 5500 from Nazafgarh Zone. In addition to this, 1378 big rallies have also been organized the highest 380 in the Central Zone. The concessionaires organized events at 265 places the highest 110 under South Zone, he said.
