Doctor robbed and murdered just before daughter's marriage

New Delhi: A 57-year-old doctor was robbed and murdered at his residence by unknown men in North-West Delhi's Jahangirpuri on Monday morning.

The police received a call around 10:30 am and they rushed to the spot and found the body of the man, identified as Doctor Mukim Ahmed Iqbal, on a bed. Doctor Mukim, apparently had no visible injury marks on his body. However, since the almirah has been found ransacked, it is assumed that he was murdered for money. DCP North-West Delhi Aslam Khan said: "The valuables which are missing are cash around Rs 4-5 lakh and jewellery worth 5-6 lakh. Since the door was open, it seems to be a friendly entry. We are investigating from all possible angles."

Sources said that Doctor Mukim was preparing for his daughter's marriage and that is the reason cash and jewellery was kept in the house. Dr Mukim lived on the first floor of his clinic in H-block of Jahangirpuri. Police suspect the murder took place between 7:30 am and 10 am Dr Mukim was alone at his residence.

His daughter is a guest teacher in a private school and she left the house at 7:30 am on Monday.

It is suspected that the assailants were well aware of the routine of the family and struck at a time when he was alone. If he was strangulated and murdered would only be ascertained after the post-mortem report of the body comes. The post-mortem would be carried out on Tuesday. "One of his relatives who resides nearby and runs a chemist shop informed the police when he visited the doctor's house in the morning," the DCP said.

Police would now be scanning the CCTV of the adjoining areas to get some clues of the attackers. The call details of the deceased doctor are also being scanned. Cops suspect that someone who had an idea of the marriage of the doctor's daughter might be behind the incident. Several teams have been formed to investigate the murder.
