Doc: Unnao rape survivor critical and on ventilator

New Delhi: The 23-year-old rape survivor, who was set ablaze by five men in Unnao, continues to fight for her life in South West Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on Friday. Meanwhile, the UP Police have increased the security at the victim's residence in Unnao.

Dr Sunil Gupta, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital said that the victim is in critical condition and on ventilator. "On Thursday, she was talking to doctors but on Friday she stopped talking," said Gupta, adding that the first 72 hours are crucial. He added that the victim had received 90 per cent burns. There are minimal chances of her survival, said Gupta.

Praveen Kumar, IG, Law and Order (UP Police), said, a police team including one sub-inspector and two constables have been deployed at her residence as a precautionary measure.

Earlier, the victim's relatives claimed that they had received death threats and the caller had also threatened to burn their shop.

SP Unnao Vikrant Vir said, "They came to know about the threat calls. We are ensuring proper security to the family."
